Services Utility: Fax Service Service Display Name (?): | Fax Service | Short Name (?): | fax | Executable (?): | faxsvc.exe | Library (?): | None. | Depends On (?): | Telephony, Telephony Service, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service, Plug and Play, Print Spooler | Supports (?): | None. | Description (?): | Helps you send and receive faxes | OS (?): | NT4 Workstation, 2000 Professional, XP Home/Professional, Vista Home/Business | Startup (?): | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Disabled | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The fax service service provides the ability to receive or send faxes. There is very little functionality for this service in Windows 2000 or especially in NT4. However, if you have fax programs that were designed for Windows NT4 or 2000 then it will most likely use this service. Since this service only activates when it is needed you should leave it set to manual. You can also safely set it to disabled if you don't use it. |

"Oh yes. That's how it starts. But the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is very much shorter then we think... For the first link the chain is formed. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." --Captain Jean Luc Picard (ST TNG, Drumhead)
