Explanation (?):

The Windows media connect (WMC) service provides the ability for universal plug and play (UPnP) devices to be detected and used seamlessly with Windows Media Player 10. UPnP is mainly designed to be used by Ethernet and Wireless (802.11) connections so that your computer detects and configures devices on the network without the need for much or any configuration. Needless to say this service is a security risk, but luckily it is only started when started by another program. I imagine this service would be initiated if the other UPnP services detect a WMC enabled device on the network. I suggest that you leave this service set to manual if you ever intend to use this feature. If you do not plan to use it then I would suggest disabling the other UPnP services as they are a potential security risk.

"Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception." --Mark Twain, The Mysterious Stranger
