Services Utility: Windows Audio Service | Display Name (?): | Windows Audio | | Short Name (?): | AudioSrv | | Executable (?): | svchost.exe | | Library (?): | audiosrv.dll | | Depends On (?): | Plug and Play, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) | | Supports (?): | None. | | Description (?): | Manages audio devices for Windows-based programs. If this service is stopped, audio devices and effects will not function properly. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. | | OS (?): | NT4 Server, 2000 Server, Server 2003, Vista Server | | Startup (?): | | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | | Automatic | Automatic | Automatic | Disabled | Automatic | Disabled | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The windows audio service is simply a toggle switch for any audio device in your computer. If this service exists then you will need to have the service start in order for applications to detect that there's a valid audio device, even if the device exists in the device profile. To disable this service set it to disabled. Once disabled it will take a restart to terminate this service as you cannot terminate it during a Windows session. In some Windows servers this service will be disabled by default as they don't expect a server to be playing sound effects (for good reason). It is highly recommended you leave this set to automatic unless you will never need sound. |

"Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for 'the universal brotherhood of man' - with his mouth". --Mark Twain
