This service is used by clients in a domain to authenticate users and services with a domain controller, and it handles DNS regristrations used for discoveries by the domain controller locator. Domain controllers also use this service to pass authentication requests and tokens. This service is a required component for a computer to act properly on a domain, but computers not on a domain, like most users, do not need this service. You should leave this service set to manual, and it will be set to automatic if connected to a domain. |

"Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception." --Mark Twain, The Mysterious Stranger
