It is used to redirect administrative alerts from the computer the error occurs on to another computer. This is really only useful for domain server environments. Generally speaking the average user will never use this service. Leaving this service set to manual is fine since it only starts if you have a device set to use it. Examples of devices that use it are special hard-disk controllers such as RAIDs or a UPS.
If you are a home user then you can safely disable this service. |

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." -- The Bene Gesserit Litany of Fear from the novel Dune by Frank Herbert
