Services Utility: Peer Networking Identity Manager Service Display Name (?): | Peer Networking Identity Manager | Short Name (?): | p2pimsvc | Executable (?): | svchost.exe | Library (?): | p2psvc.dll | Depends On (?): | Peer Name Resolution Protocol, Peer Networking Group Authentication | Supports (?): | Peer Name Resolution Protocol, Peer Networking Group Authentication | Description (?): | Provides Identity service for Peer Networking | OS (?): | XP Home/Professional, Vista Home/Business, Server 2003, Vista Server | Startup (?): | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Manual | Disabled | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The peer networking identity manager provides the ability for Windows to identify peers when using TCP/IP version 6 (IPv6). I imagine this works with the various other peer services and the function of this service is most likely to contact the seed server to find additional peers. If you don't need this service then you most likely don't need IPv6 and you should remove the entire package from add / remove programs in the control panel. |

"Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for 'the universal brotherhood of man' - with his mouth". --Mark Twain
