This is used primarily in two ways. The first is the standard cascading of Internet naming servers. The second is through the use of active directory. The purpose of using active directory through DNS lookups is that NETBIOS is inferior compartively. Chances are that if you are running a server that you will definitely want the DNS server service unless running, but if not you should uninstall it from the add/remove components dialog rather then just disabling the service. |
